This is your basic, no-frills Mexican taco. Be sure to heat the taco shells in the oven while the meat is cooking. A variety of toppings may be used, limited only by your own imagination.
Today, taco shells come a a variety of sizes and shapes so you may get 6, 8 or more tacos from this recipe according to what size shells you buy.
Yield: 6-8 servings
o 1 pound Ground beef
o 1 medium onion, chopped
o Salt to taste
o 1 Clove garlic, chopped (optional)
o 1 package Taco shells
o 1 cup taco sauce
o 1 cup lettuce, chopped
o 1 medium tomato, chopped
o 1 cup Panela (or your favorite) cheese, grated
1. In a skillet, on medium heat, cook the beef and onion until beef is browned and onion tender (5-8 min). Add 1/4 cup taco sauce, stir and add garlic (optional) and cook another 3-4 minutes until sauce is incorporated. Add salt to taste.
2. Place a heaping tablespoon of meat mixture in each taco shell and stuff with lettuce, tomato and cheese.
3. Serve with the remaining taco sauce and top with sour cream, guacamole or your favorite garnish.
